In December 2007, the Housing Partnership completed the renovation and reconstruction of Wire Works. For more than two years, volunteers and staff of the Housing Partnership put in countless hours to convert the turn of the century factory into 25 units of mixed income housing, a board room and the new office building for the Housing Partnership. The character of this site, which is on the National Historic Registry, has been preserved and brought to life to not only provide affordable housing, but also offer the Housing Partnership staff and volunteers a better space for program and operations. By March 2008, the Housing Partnership obtained complete occupancy of nine market rate units, six Permanent Supportive Housing programmed units and ten Affordable Housing units. In January 2008, the staff moved into the new office at 605 E. Hancock Street.
Undertaking Wire Works is the Housing Partnership's most ambitious project to date, and it would not have been completed without the cadre of dedicated volunteers and partners who made the project possible. The Housing Partnership would like to recognize Miron, who provided more than $113,000 in contracting support and in-kind labor. Additionally, Community First Credit Union provided a generous finance package to complete Wire Works. Trans Data donated desks, a new phone system and cubicle dividers, and Nordon worked in-kind to install the items donated by Trans Data. We would also like to recognize SK Flooring who continued to support the Housing Partnership with the donation of more than $20,000 of in-kind labor.
